Our main focus at Life Centre is to provide a specialist service to people living with HIV (PLHIV). Regardless of when or where you’d been diagnosed with HIV, we’ll be available to assist you.
What to expect at your first visit
We’ll enquire about your full medical history. Thereafter we’ll do a physical examination or check-up. We’ll explain everything about HIV and answer any of your questions.
New HIV diagnosis
A new HIV diagnosis can be very stressful. We’ll try to help make it as easy as possible for you, and provide you with counselling, if you wish.
Established HIV diagnosis
If you’ve previously been on HIV treatment and it had been interrupted for any reason, we can help you get back on track, especially if you’ve developed any “opportunistic” infections, like TB.
Special investigations
To choose the right treatment, we’ll need your latest blood results. If necessary, we’ll request additional blood tests or X-rays.
Treatment – antiretroviral therapy (ARVs or ART)
If you’re ready, we can prescribe your ARVs, even on the same day. Please contact us if you have any questions about your ARVs later on.
Follow-up appointments
We’ll arrange follow-up appointments to monitor your progress at specific time intervals, depending on your level of health or illness, and your response to treatment. With effective modern ARVs, however, we expect you to do very well, and we’ll likely eventually only need to see you twice a year to review your blood results and do a general health check-up.
